Vacation (All I Ever Wanted)

Hey! Guess where we went for our family vacation!

P1040225
Oh. Right. I guess you can read the sign.

P1040250
I think we only have a year or two left before Dash becomes too big for the Lizzeggo Lizzand.

P1040282
Well, unless he grows up to be anything like Josh...

P1040284
Who really, really still loves Legos.

P1040286
(Zank you, I'll be heeh all zee week.)

P1040287
Looks like he may.

P1040259
I should probably address why Dash's face is half green. It's because he was cursed by a Gypsy. We had already paid for the hotel, so we decided to roll with our vacation anyway.

P1040275
Dash took an opportunity to challenge himself a little.

P1040273
He would not be deterred from trying to climb this thing.

P1040268
And then he did!

P1040274
High five, dude.

P1040277
We actually went to Legoland twice, two days in a row. The first day we just did the park & the second day we went to the waterpark. That's why I'm all half naked in this pic.

P1040278
This is about how we all felt at the end of day two.

P1040278
Close up!

P1040257
But then we went back to the hotel & photobombed each other...

P1040256
...while dressed like Charles Lindbergh. I don't ask why anymore.

P1040290
Then! Then on day three we hit up Sea World.

P1040289
Why? Because we're the best parents ever. Also: suckers.

P1040292
Oh! Oh! And I went up on the Skytower! That shit is 320 feet up & rotates! (This is significant because I've been trying to get over my fear of heights & I think I may have, so I keep testing myself.)

P1040353
In conclusion.

Run, Dummy!

Ok. I almost can't believe it my own self, but I did it. I ran a 5k on Sunday. It wasn't pretty & it certainly wasn't fast, but I ran the whole way & I didn't stop and I can't wait to do it again.

If you would have told me six months ago that I'd run a 5k for any reason other than that I was being chased, I would have fallen over with laughter. I had literally never run a step in my life outside of elementary school P.E., and even then, I don't know if you could call what I was doing back then "running." Loping, maybe.

But I heard about Couch to 5k and people kept saying it was doable and Josh was so sweet and happy and encouraging when I voiced my hesitant interest, that I felt compelled to at least try. And I did. And I liked it.

We woke up at 5am on the day of the race to a cold, rainy day. Also, I had completely lost my voice. I wasn't actually sick yet (that would come later) but I couldn't really talk. By the time we got to Santa Monica, the rain had stopped and the day was turning out to be perfect. I still couldn't talk, but that seemed unimportant. I needed to focus mainly on being scared shitless.

P1040101
I lost Josh almost immediately after the gun went off.

P1040099
Dash spent the night with Aunty & Tio the night before the race and they all drove down to root us on in the morning. This pic is the moment I spotted them. I have to tell you, if someone you love is going to try to do something hard & you have a chance to show up for them, do it. After seeing their faces I honestly felt like I could have flown.

P1040134
This is poor sadface Josh crossing the finish line, well ahead of me. He's not really in pain, he just always looks like that when he runs.

P1040163
Here's me. I'm only smiling because it's finally over.

P1040149
Josh and Dash are very cute.

P1040211
And, at the end, we got t-shirts!

P1040200
I'm never taking mine off.

Wheels

Hello! Well, I did run a 5K, thanks for asking! But more importantly, our boy learned to ride a bike without training wheels in all of five minutes today! What the fuck? This is not my genes kicking in. Must be Josh.

Here's how it went:

Dash's friend, Emily: "why do you still have training wheels, Dash?"
Dash: "Mama, I would like to lose the training wheels."
Mama: "Daddy!!!!!!!!"
Daddy: "Here you go Dash."
Dash: "Lalalalala"
...And, scene.

Mother's Day 2011

My beautiful boys took me back to my favorite spot at LACMA for Mother's Day this year.

We picnic'd with our beloved Aunty & Tio and Babkes family, and then we were even able to hit a few exhibits! Dash got to see his naked lady & the boys ran around the Richard Serra installation.

Can someone explain to me how this child grows at this pace when he doesn't eat food?

Thanks for a perfect day, boys. I'm the luckiest Mama in the world.
